Prosthodontic Surgery

Prosthodontic surgery is kind of teeth surgeries, which is indicated for recovering the normal dentition and distribution of forces that occurs in mastication process. This kind of dentistry recovers partial or complete set of dentition. Prosthodontic surgeries involve recovering of teeth crowns, implanting veneers, bridges and tooth implants.

Kinds of Prosthesis

Crowns of teeth usually are restored with ceramic, porcelain or metal materials. The metals such as gold or tin/aluminum can be used for restoration. It is noticeable, that underlying tooth must be reshaped with a purpose to fix restoration material.

Veneers are small artificial coverings that are used to cover the forward surface of the tooth for the aesthetic purposes.

Bridges are fixed prosthesis that involves two or more crowns in the same jaw. These crowns always are connected together. In the majority of cases bridges are used after a tooth extraction

By the way, some artificial tooth can be inserted into bone tissue in the jaw. These prosthesis are called implants. First of all titanium implant is surgically impacted into bone tissue and after 4 or 6 months artificial tooth is connected with an implant. The cements or crews can be used for connection procedure.

And finally, some patients that have only few teeth in their jaws can require Prosthodontic treatment with dentures. It can be partial or complete set of tooth that are attached to other teeth with metal or plastic grasps.
